In the summer of 2009, after moving from Oklahoma to the Dallas area Kimberly started hanging out with some old college friends. While attending a “house party”, Kimberly saw Konata for the first time. She was immediately intrigued by his genuine smile and keen sense of style. After a few interactions with him, Kimberly shyly expressed to their mutual friends that she had a little crush on Mr. West. Of course, they could not wait to share the news with Mook even after Kimberly pleaded with them to keep her secret. It turns out they were on the right track! The next time they saw each other Konata asked for her number. This marked the start of a friendship that would blossom into a long-lasting courtship. Kimberly and Konata’s journey has been full of twists and turns, and they are tremendously excited to begin their lives together on May 29, 2016!
Kimberly is the oldest of three and only girl born to Helen and Kenneth. She was raised in the greatest city on earth, Houston, TX! Throughout her childhood Kimberly was quite shy, but she loved to read and watch her beloved Houston Rockets. Even though she is the oldest, her brothers, K.P. and Kevin, loved to tease and play around with her even good-naturedly ganging up on her at times. Despite this, Kimberly loves spending much of her time with “The Rutlands.”
With Kimberly being pretty introverted, it was a huge adjustment when she decided to attend college 450 miles away at the University of Oklahoma. It turned out to be the best decision she could have made! At OU Kimberly blossomed, met many friends and took advantage of all campus had to offer sometimes to the dismay of her parents. The decision to travel to Norman, OK was clearly a part of God’s plan for Kimberly as she has a fruitful career with the university and ultimately met the love of her life, Konata.
Konata is the oldest of three and was raised by his parents and grandparents in good-old Tulsa, Oklahoma. At the age of eight, at the advice of his grandmother, Konata transferred from a public to private school (Holy Family Catholic School), which would positively change the trajectory of his life, enabling him to excel academically and develop much needed self-confidence.
Konata played many sports as a kid, his favorite being basketball. His 8th grade coach, Robert Baker, had a hard time pronouncing Konata and thus dubbed him “Mook”. Konata didn’t object given he owned the decision-making power over the final roster list. Little did he know, that nickname would follow him through adolescence and into adulthood.
Unfortunately, all of Konata’s loved ones are not here to be part of the upcoming wedding. However, he is extremely grateful to the family and friends who are able to attend and provide their support. Konata is greatly humbled by the love from his family and their endless belief in him, and moreover, excited to get this “first day of the rest of your life” thing going with his best friend and love, Kimberly.
Adrianne is one of Kimberly’s dearest friends as they met when Kimberly was her Resident Advisor at OU. Together these two make a cute pair, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Devito style! Hailing from Tulsa, Oklahoma, Adrianne now makes her home in the nation’s capital.
April was the first friend Kimberly made after moving into the residence halls at OU! She is always encouraging Kimberly by saying “we’ll see what tomorrow brings!” April is originally from Oklahoma City, but now resides in Dallas.
Tia is Konata’s only sister. Upon meeting, she and Kimberly instantly clicked bonding over their love of “The Young and The Restless”. Tia, her husband, Monte, and two young daughters live in Tulsa, OK.
Born and raised in Enid, OK, Shanel met Kimberly while working with the Black Student Association on OU’s campus. She’s an excellent cook, and kept Kimberly well fed while they were roommates. For the last eight years, Shanel has lived in Washington, D. C.
Lauren and Kimberly met at the University of Oklahoma and became closer once they both began recruiting for OU. Her love for third coast rap music makes her the life of any party. Originally from the Land of the Trill, Port Arthur, TX, Lauren and her husband now make their home in Dallas.
Mayra and Kimberly’s friendship blossomed while they worked together in the Office of Student Life on OU’s campus. She introduced Kimberly to her now favorite gelato place, Paciugo. Mayra now lives in Grand Prairie, TX with her husband, Alejandro, daughter, and soon to be baby number two!
Natasha is Kimberly’s sister-in-law, and their relationship has truly grown in the nearly five years since she married her brother, Kenneth. Natasha and Kimberly love being the tallest ladies in the place! She and Kenneth live in Houston with their two children.
Sydnea is Kimberly’s sister-in-law and little sister. She and Kimberly share many natural hair secrets (#teamnatural). The newlyweds are currently living in the capital of the Lone Star State.
Konata and Eric have been friends since meeting in the third grade at Holy Family Catholic School. In their 32 years of friendship life has taken them in opposite directions multiple times; the first being attending college in different states. Through the different twist and turns of life their friendship has never wavered. Eric is a Land Developer for a national real estate firm. Eric, his wife, Katrina, and their two children currently live in Orange County, California.
K’Ron is Konata’s younger brother. As children K’Ron would serve as the co-conspirators in playing tricks on their sister and mother. This led to lots of laughter in the household. Brothers to the end, K’Ron and Konata share a love and dedication to God, family and friends. K’Ron works as Martial Arts Instructor. He was born, raised and currently lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Damond and Konata met on the campus of University of Oklahoma at Burger King in Adams Hall. Both quickly learned they had many things in common including their desire to one day join the same fraternity. The two instantly became friends attending local events together. Damond is a Nuclear Engineer for the United States Government. He currently resides in Huntsville, Alabama.
Gerald and Konata met their freshman year at the University of Oklahoma in chemistry lab. Both were a bit skeptical of each other initially. However, they quickly developed a friendship fueled by a car ride together to a nearby club (Casanova’s). Gerald is a Design Engineering Team Leader for a large oil company. Originally from Omaha, Nebraska, Gerald now lives in Los Angeles, CA.
K.P. is Kimberly’s younger brother and Konata’s soon-to-be brother-in-law. He along with Konata share a friendly fraternal rivalry that leads to continuous laughter whenever they see each other. K.P. works as a Software Engineer for one of the nation’s largest diversified media companies. He and his wife Natasha live in Houston, Texas along with their two children.
Kevin is Kimberly’s youngest brother and Konata’s soon-to-be brother-in-law. Upon meeting at the now closed Cuba Libre Latin Restaurant in Dallas, Kevin and Konata begin building a friendship based on mutual respect and common interests. Kevin graduated from the University of Missouri and is currently a professional athlete. He lives in Austin, Texas with his new bride, Sydnea.
Jason and Konata met while pledging together at the University of Oklahoma. These two developed a strong friendship the following summer, riding around Norman Oklahoma in the “D-Nasty” getting into mischief. Jason works as a Software Development Manager for a global provider of technology to the financial services industry. He lives in Dallas, Texas with his fiance, Wanda.
Jay and Konata grew up in the same “hood” in Tulsa. They shared a bond in that each had a mother that worked long hours. The teens would often sneak to each other's house and indulge in dinners pre-cooked by their mothers. Jay recently graduated from the University of Phoenix with a degree in Accounting. He makes his home in El Paso, Texas with his wife, Danielle, and their two boys.
